Backyard flock keepers will have the chance this autumn to join commercial poultry farmers at a series of avian influenza roadshows across the UK.
Organised by the Poultry Health and Welfare Group, the 12 events will be a chance for speakers to share lessons learned by the industry and government with producers following a series of AI outbreaks during 2017/8.
The move to extend the invitation to small scale producers will ensure the whole sector is kept up to date on current disease threats and the requirement for stringent biosecurity protocols during AI outbreaks.
There were a number of AI cases among backyard flock producers and concerns were raised in the spring that smallholders were not adhering to biosecurity protocols.
Speakers at the 12 events will include Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) representatives and licensing experts, vets and the Poultry Club of Great Britain.
The roadshows will all take place during October and will run from 10am-3pm with a free lunch included expect for the event on 4 October at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells, which will be an evening meeting, starting at 6pm.
