Dutch airline, KLM has moved away from serving ‘plofkip’, the rapidly growing industrial broilers, on all its flights leaving Amsterdam Schiphol airport.
The airline informed Dutch animal welfare organisation ‘Wakker Dier’ of the change. The welfare organisation has been instrumental in many changes happening in the Dutch consumer market, with campaigns targeting supermarkets, amongst others.
The organisation reports being pleased with the move, as well as with KLM’s commitment to use only ‘Wakker Dier’ starred chicken on its airline meals.
KLM hopes to phase out the use of the regular chicken in its airline meals by 2013.
