French animal health company, Ceva Santé Animale, has been awarded the first internationally recognised quality approval accreditation for its hatchery vaccination services program.

The global program for poultry, ‘Ceva Hatchery Immunisation Control Keys’, known commonly as the CHICK program, received quality recognition from the international testing and certification company, Bureau Veritas Group, based in Paris, France.

Hatcheries checked for proper vaccination practises

The CHICK program sees Ceva’s specialist teams visiting customer’s hatcheries regularly to run a number of tests to check whether vaccines are properly stored, prepared and administered, as well as delivering continuous training to operators. The shared aim with Ceva customers is to have all birds well vaccinated in the hatchery before being sent to farms.

The company has a global team of over 130 hatchery specialists who work with local hatchery managers using innovative data management tools, to continually track performance and ensure continuous improvement of results.

Compliance with code strictly monitored

The quality recognition was given based on the CHICK Program Quality Code of Practice, a reference guide produced by Ceva together with Bureau Veritas over more than two years of collaboration. Upon completion, the Ceva Group was awarded the quality recognition after a thorough audit at the company’s HQ in Libourne, France.

Speaking to World Poultry, Dr Gabriel Rshaid, Ceva’s head of marketing and global operations said the certification was part of the company’s growth pathway and a “commitment of our team to show that we are delivering what we promised.”

Helping hatcheries receive a high productivity

“At Ceva, we know that being in the hatchery day to day with our customers is the way to help them get the most productivity from their operations,” Rshaid said when commenting on the award. “We probably have the most innovative range of poultry vaccines in the world but unless they are applied properly, this counts for nothing. Now our customers can be sure that the quality services we provide to support our products are of the highest possible international standard.”

Compliance to the high standards of the code of practise will now be monitored by Bureau Veritas Group at a country level, all around the world. Following the accreditation, a series of audits at affiliate hatcheries around the world will take place starting in South Africa.
