Adjusting to changing consumer demands

Patterns in consumer consumption and behaviour greatly vary around the world, said Anastavia Alieva during the official opening of VIV Europe.

Alieva is Head of Fresh Food Research of Euromonitor International from the UK. An organisation which continuously monitors patterns in fresh food consumption.

Given the growing need for food, changes will have to be made, she said. This comes down to innovation from various sides. First adapt products to the changing consumer. Also offering convenience is needed. Support the consumer with nutritional facts and cooking tips, she says, and cater to the ethical consumer. Not to forget, focus on clear labelling and traceability. Finally, explore new distribution formats like vending machines, or the internet, Alieva concluded.
