Americans are the largest consumers of chicken meat with a total consumption of 13.75 mmt in 2006, which reflects almost 25% of total consumption.
Furthermore, the Chinese digested 10.37 mmt and third largest consumer group of chicken meat are the Europeans (EU-25) with 7.38 mmt. This was a little bit less compared to 2005 (7.6 mmt) due to bird flu scares.
However, experts expect that consumption in 2007 will pick up again and reach an estimated 7.53 mmt, a plus of 2%.
The largest increase in consumption (+10.2%) is to be expected in India, which after all is still only consuming 2.2 mmt (with a population of more than 1 billion people).
