APHIS: tests approved for AI may increase

05-06-2008 | |

The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has proposed increasing the number of tests approved for avian influenza used in breeding and commercial poultry from two to four.

According to the APHIS, the two additional tests can provide results quickly, making them useful as part of a response and containment plan in the event of an outbreak.
Increase frequency
Additionally, APHIS is also proposing to increase the frequency of required AI tests to 90-day intervals instead of 180-day intervals.
Comments regarding these proposals may be submitted on or before 28 July.
