Australia: Hope for chicken merger plans

24-04-2009 | |

A merger between two of Australia’s major chicken processors could still go ahead, because of a new proposal, reports Australia’s ABC Rural.

Baiada Poultry wanted to acquire Bartter Enterprises, which owns the Steggles brand. In February, however, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission blocked the move.

Baiada has since put up a new proposal where, upon acquiring Bartter, it will sell all assets owned by Bartter in Victoria to La Ionica Poultry.

The assets include Bartter’s Geelong processing plant, breeding farms and a feed mill in North Melbourne.
