Bahrain: Plans to boost poultry sector

The Municipalities and Agriculture Ministry in Bahrain have launched a scheme to improve the poultry sector and increase annual production of the industry.

The new plan will aim to increase th eannual production of birds 20% from 6.2 mln to 7.5 mln. According to Minister Dr Juma Al Ka’abi, this will cover more than 50% of consumers’ needs.

Additionally, the scheme includes expanding chicken farms, and improving veterinary services.

The sector provides for more than 17% of national consumers’ requirements, with 55%c of the total eggs consumed.  Additionally, this industry is responsible for the employment of 450 Bahrainis.

Bahrain Development Bank will help fund the plan.
