Bird flu drill spooks unsuspecting onlookers

More than 100 frightened Canadian residents called into local radio stations after spotting workers wearing white bio-hazard suits in the Steinbach area.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed that its officials were engaged in a mock avian influenza outbreak to test equipment and procedures that would be needed in the case of an avian influenza outbreak.
The Food Agency stressed that there is no actual outbreak.
According to the latest World Health Organisation statistics, there have been 256 cases of human bird flu worldwide, with 152 of these being fatal.
