British Pig & Poultry Fair to demonstrate industry pride

The British Pig & Poultry Fair, to be held, 13 and 14 May, plans to galvanise the industry this month with a top line up of technical forums and key note speakers to help grow British businesses in the sector.

“The pig and poultry industry needs to remind itself and consumers, that it’s a great industry, delivering high quality British pork, poultry and eggs to exceptionally high welfare standards,” observes Malcolm Munro, a communications specialist.

Munro will present the forum, ‘Unlocking the power of media to grow our businesses’, offering an insight into how the media can be utilised to generate positive coverage about the way we produce British pork and poultry products, and correct the misinterpretations often made about the sectors. The ultimate aim is to drive consumer demand and help grow businesses.

Munro will explain that producers should be proud to demonstrate the high standards adhered to within the industry. He details how this can be achieved through providing the wider media with facts and information. “Quotes, anecdotes and contributions from leading producers will equip the media with the right information to positively influence consumers,” he notes.

“Context is very important to help build trust with the consumer. It is the whole industry’s responsibility to not only rear pigs and poultry in the best way possible, but to educate and explain to the media and consumers how the industry operates.”

A vital debate taking place during the event, is how the pig and poultry sectors can secure part of the £90 million government fund to drive future innovations and rebuild the connection between basic research and applied science.

The British Pig and Poultry Fair is a biennial, free to attend event organised by Grandstand Stoneleigh Events Ltd on behalf of the Royal Agricultural Society of England and partnered by ABN.
