Chickens get knitted woolly jumpers

18-03-2009 | |

A woman in the UK has started knitting sweaters for rescued battery hens that have lost their feathers, reports the BBC.

Jane Blaine from Oxfordshire, who has previously made coats for dogs, was approached by her friend asking her to make knitted jumpers for chickens.

“When I saw these poor battery hens without any feathers, I thought I’d give it a try,” said Blaine.

The BBC goes on to report that the jumpers are made from eyelash wool and were specially designed after the chickens’ measurements were taken.

Measuring the chickens was problematic, says Blaine, because they obviously have quite small necks and big bodies.
