China licenses more Brazilian poultry suppliers

China has issued 14 new supplier licenses to poultry companies in Brazil, increasing the number of slaughtering plants authorised to export to China to 24, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

The companies are located in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the midwestern region of Brazil, Minas Gerais, in the Southeast, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, in the South. The Chinese are considering the possibility of licensing another two plants, in Santa Catarina and São Paulo. The Brazilian plants were inspected by the Chinese in March.


China was the number three destination for Brazilian agribusiness products in 2005. From 2000 to 2005, national exports to the China increased by around 480%. Last year, Brazil exported approximately US$80 million worth of poultry to China.
