Officials in Inner Mongolia have confirmed that the recent outbreak of avian influenza among poultry has been controlled in northern China, according to the Xinhua news agency.

Beijing put bans on imports of chicken from the region, after nearly 1,000 ducks and chickens died from bird flu and more than 17,000 poultry were killed to contain the virus.
“As of midnight on October 1, no new deaths among poultry and no human cases of bird flu were reported,” Xinhua quoted a regional government official as saying.
