Charoen Pokphand Group will develop 3 integrated poultry layer farms in China, based on its agricultural village management model in Thailand, says CP Group chairman Dhanin Chearavanont.
“Each integrated poultry layer farm, in villages in Anhui, Shanxi, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and Jilin provinces, will raise 3 mln layers and would also have a chicken-feed production plant and processing plant for higher-value egg-based products, so powdered and liquid eggs for the food industry. Other necessary facilities will include conveyors to load eggs from farms to processing units,” he says.
CP Group, reportedly Thailand’s largest agribusiness group, was the first foreign investor in China. It has invested billions of dollars over 3 decades in several ventures including the poultry and animal feed industries.
According to Chearavanont, CP has no plan for further investments in poultry farms, particularly layer operations in Thailand. But China, he says, continues to hold great business potential given its 1.3 bln population.
