Cuts expected by US poultry producer

29-07-2011 | |

Omtron, the new owner of Townsends’ North Carolina poultry operations appears set to reduce or close operations in Mocksville and Siler City, officials have reported.

How many jobs will be lost and which plants will be affected is yet to be announced but it is an unexpected turn of events following Omtron’s take-over of ailing Townsends earlier this year. It has been reported that nearly 700 jobs could be eliminated in North Carolina by Oct. 1.

Omtron, a US shell corporation created by Oleg Bakhmatyuk, a Ukrainian businessman who owns food, transportation, real estate and financial companies, supplies pre-cooked chicken products to the domestic and international food service and retail markets.
