According to sources, when this facility is operational, Delhi would sport a new modern meat food complex on NH 24 catering not just to the citizens of Delhi but also neighbouring cities.
It has been reported that DAMB would make available seven acres of the 15 acre plot where the current chicken market is functioning at Gazipur on the Delhi-UP border (NH-24).
Bird capacity
The facility would have a capacity to process 5,000 birds per hour in a single shift of eight hours, this translates to processing 40,000 birds per day.
About 240,000 birds are consumed daily in Delhi and close to 50,000 of them are supplied after being manually slaughtered in the existing poultry market at Gazipur.
Broiler consumption demand
Broiler consumption in Delhi is growing at 15-20%, which is being driven by the increasing demand from a health conscious population.
Delhi’s broiler requirements are met by supplies from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal.
Currently, the existing market at Gazipur has two sheds which are temporary and have nearly 90 shops. The new facility would have 120 shops.
