Salted and preserved eggs are under increased scrutiny in Singapore as the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) introduces new requirements for the import of such products.
The increased detection of prohibited colourings in eggs (Sudan Red, for example) has brought on these revised requirements.
Such eggs are to be imported from approved sources only, and each consignment must be accompanied by a health certificate certifying that the egg products are free from Sudan Red.
The AVA has, so far, approved 17 processing plants from China and three from Vietnam. If found to be contaminated, the consignment will be rejected and the processing plants will be suspended from exporting to Singapore.
