Egypt: Bird flu toll now 66

The Egyptian Health Ministry has confirmed that an 18-month old girl has contracted the bird flu virus. This brings the total number of human avian influenza cases in the country to 66.

The girl from Kafr El-Sheikh governorate north of Cairo is now in critical condition despite taking the drug Tamiflu.

Earlier on Friday, a 25-year-old woman, who comes from a northern neighborhood of Cairo was admitted to hospital after contracting the bird flu virus.

The death toll of the human cases of bird flu is 23 so far in Egypt.
