There is a need to understand the interactions of nutrition, infection, and immunity to explore new avenues for the development of cost-effective control strategies against coccidiosis that do not rely upon chemical prophylaxis. In the near future new genomics and molecular techniques will enable new approaches to enhance host immunity against enteric pathogens.
