Gas stunning reduces rejects in spent hen processing
The commercial egg industry should consider making use of controlled atmosphere stunning for spent hens. This will not only decrease the number of rejects, but will also improve hen welfare. Averting the next pandemic Avian influenza keeps the poultry industry – particularly poultry health researchers – very busy. Media attention, as well as an ongoing increase in the number of outbreaks, demands that more action is focused on stopping the scare for the next pandemic. US researchers are trying through cooperative efforts to halt the disease.
