Germany culls 1,400 fowl after AI appears
German authorities have culled 1,400 domestic fowl after the discovery of the country’s first case of AI this year.
A duck on a commercial farm in the town of Markersdorf in eastern Germany tested positive for the H5N1 highly pathogenic strain of bird flu.
It is not yet know how the duck caught the virus, but authorities are testing all fowl in the quarantine area to see if the disease has spread.
Authorities have set up a 3 km (1.9 mile) quarantine.
