H7 bird flu case detected in Japan

The H7N6 strain of bird flu has been detected at 2 quail farms in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, announced the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry.

This is reportedly the first time that bird flu has been detected in Japan since February 2007.

The virus was detected during a regular inspection in a total of 7 quails at the farm, which raises around 300,000 of the birds.
