KR Castlemaine Foods, in southern Queensland, has recalled 6,000 cartons of products from across the country following the confirmation that one of its employees was diagnosed with hepatitis A.

The Toowoomba-based company recalled 17 lines of ready-to-eat products including shaved and sliced ham turkey and chicken. The recall is expected to cost the company A$500,000 (€296,942).

According to the president of the parent company Darling Downs Foods, Mike Adams, the staff member in question has recovered from the potentially fatal illness, which she contracted from a friend visiting from overseas. Adding that the Queensland Health has said that there is nothing wrong with any of the systems or any of the ways the company manufactures or produces the product.
