Millions more offered for Pilgrim’s Pride plant

19-03-2009 | |

It has been reported that Louisiana has doubled its offer for the Pilgrim’s Pride facility in Farmerville, La., slated to close over the coming months.

The state initially agreed to match the $20 mln Foster Farms had offered for the plant, making the total bid $40 mln, however, Pilgrim’s Pride turned the offer down.

Louisiana has now raised its share to $40 mln, the Gazette in Farmerville reports, bringing the total offer to $60 mln. Foster Farms also pledged $50 mln in equipment and other investments in exchange for a commitment to rehire Pilgrim’s Pride workers and maintain the plant for at least 5 years.

Nothing is final just yet.
