Napal: a second bird flu outbreak

Another case of the H5N1 bird flu virus has been detected in east Nepal in the Jhapa district.

H5N1 strain of the avian influenza virus has been detected in a chicken sample collected from Sharanamati Village Development Committee of the district, said Hari Dahal, spokesperson at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

After the first outbreak of the disease in the country on 16 January, the government declared emergency in the area within a radius of 10 km from the quarantine office in Kakarbhitta of Jhapa district.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is said to be organising a press conference to provide further information about the second outbreak.
