New Zealand’s broilers bird flu free

21-07-2006 | |

Biosecurity New Zealand has confirmed that New Zealand’s broilers, poultry raised for their meat, are avian influenza free.

The survey, New Zealand’s first national survey of broiler poultry, was completed as part of the country’s surveillance programme and international effects to learn more about the bird flu and its movements.

The survey on layer hens is due within a few weeks. Biosecurity New Zealand is also planning checks on domestic birds, such as ducks and geese plus wild bird populations.

New Zealand’s Poultry Industry Association expects the survey results will help boost the country’s poultry meat and eggs exports.
