Rema 1000, a Norwegian supermarket chain owned by the Reitan group, has acquired an 84% stake in poultry producer Norsk Kylling (Norwegian Chicken), for an undisclosed sum.
“We know that we are much more effective if we work more closely with suppliers. We have wanted a tighter integration with the company for many years,” explained a statement from Rema.
Norsk Kylling generated sales of 800m kroner (€100m) last year, and through collaboration with Rema 1000 has a 25% share of Norway’s white meat market. The company has seen its turnover double in the past four years.
