Pakistan sets 2012-2013 egg and poultry meat targets

The government in Islamabad has set poultry meat and egg targets for the current financial year to fulfil the domestic demand as well as for export.

An official in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research said that poultry production is set to increase by 0.85 million tonnes during the current financial year. Poultry production increased by 10 percent during the financial year 2011-12 as about 756.6 million tonnes poultry meat was produced against the set target of 687.6 million tonnes, he added.
The official further said that egg production is expected to reach 13.81 million, showing 6.5 percent growth.
