In the UK the NFU has announced the appointment of a new chief poultry adviser, Gary Ford.
Ford has been at the NFU for nine years, and has also worked within the broiler industry for 10 years as an agricultural manager for a processor and grower. He replaces Kelly Watson, who is moving over to the poultry team at supermarket Sainsbury’s.
Within the NFU, he has worked as a county adviser for Warwickshire and Worcestershire. He said: “I very much look forward to combining my passion and knowledge of the industry with my experience of lobbying stakeholders including MPs and MEPs to the benefit of the poultry industry.
“We have a number of challenges ahead of us – not least campylobacter, beak trimming, profitability, planning issues and public perception – which I look forward to playing my part in making a positive difference for our proud and dynamic industry.
