Pilgrim Pride has announced that its poultry processing facility in Timberville, Virginia, will close every other Friday for the rest of the year, ultimately reducing production by 10%.
Pilgrim Pride announced the “skip day” work schedule, which is to begin on the 28th July, in a letter to employees on June 28th.
“Poultry in the United States has had a hard time this year,” Gary Rhodes, vice president of corporate communications, told the Associated Press. “There’s been a very weak demand in the export market because of fears of avian flu.”
