Argentine capital Buenos Aires is hosting the biennial ALA poultry congress and show this week. Producers and specialists from all across Latin America get together at the La Rural expo center for a range of specialised poultry seminars and a major trade show. The event is the biggest of its kind in Latin America.
The ALA congress took off on Tuesday evening with the official inauguration. A range of speakers addressed the audience, among which former ALA president Dr. Ramirez from Cuba and current president Héctor Motta from Argentina. Among the speakers there was also the Argentine minister of agriculture, Mrs Débora Giorgi who officilally opened the congress. All speakers emphasised the need for poultry producers in Latin America to respond to the growing demand for poultry and eggs in this region and the chances they have in this respect.
On Wednesday the official program started. In five concurrent sessions, topics on poultry keeping, growing and processing were discussed. Speakers came from all across Latin America, but also from others parts of the world, mainly North America and Europe.
Almost all major suppliers are on display at the trade show that runs concurrently with the seminar programme. The organisers expect in between 15,000 and 20,000 visitors to attend the ALA congress. It runs up till Friday evening.
