Poultry trade deal between Brazil and India

A deal has recently been agreed upon for the export of unprocessed poultry meat to India, from Brazil.

It has been reported that this trade deal could result in 300,000 tonnes being exported in the first year.
According to the Brazilian Association of Chicken Producers and Exporters (ABEF), this could make India the No. 1 buyer of Brazilian chicken meat. In the past, this position was held by Russia, which in 2007 purchased 194,000 t of the meat from the country.
Chicken is a major source of protein in India as many people there do not eat beef as they are Hindu. It has also been reported that India has recently been unable to meet domestic demand for poultry meat.
