Taiwan has imposed a ban on the import of poultry from the Netherlands following the discovery of a low path strain of bird flu on a farm there.

The ban took effect on Thursday (3 August) and according to a spokesman for Taiwan’s Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Chiang Hsien-choung, it will remain in place until the situation is under control.

Taiwan currently imports chicks from the Netherlands for breeding and genetic modification.

Hong Kong also banned all Dutch poultry imports yesterday because of the bird flu discovery.
