Thailand’s export of cooked chicken has been approved by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as the certification of of Thai Halal brand, poultry slaughterhouses, and processing factories in Thailand.

The Agriculture and Co-operatives Minister Thira Sutabutr has confirmed that the municipal council of the UAE has approved the Thai Halal brand, 24 chicken slaughterhouses, and 36 chicken processing factories. This follows a recent visit of senior officials from the UAE municipal council to Thailand to inspect and assess the Halal food production processes run by the Islamic Committee Office of Thailand.

The UAE also certified the quality of Thai cooked chicken products to be exported to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, and the Sultanate of Oman.

The Arab countries agreed to each permit the importing of products from any country approved by any other GCC country member. This UAE approval also presents a good opportunity for Thai cooked chicken products to penetrate GCC country markets, of which exports are expected to reach 10,000 tonnes in volume, worth Bt700 million (€17 million) in value in 2007.
