Thailand signs Halal export deals

In an aggressive move to increase Halal exports, Thailand’s Commerce Ministry has signed two export deals.

The deals with the French Casino Group which has 9,850 outlets and the Belgium-based Dehaize which has 2,705 stores worldwide, is an attempt to increase Halal exports of cooked canned food primarily to the EU market’s Muslim population of 7-8%.

According to the Commerce Ministry, Thailand’s present global Halal market amounts to 1%. the signing of the two agreements, with Casino and Dehaise offers many opportunities, particularly for Southern Thailand’s Halal producers, to increase exports.
