Thailand’s National Plan 2 to combat bird flu

30-05-2007 | |

In the event of an H5NI pandemic, which could infect about 26 million Thais, the National Committee on Avian Influenza Control is implementing “Plan 2”, a sequel to the first plan adopted in 2005.

This Plan will focus more on long-term prevention, in addition to bird flu outbreak control, and will be implemented from 2008 – 2010. An estimated 4 billion baht (€91 million) will be spent on surveillance and flu vaccines, 3 billion (€68 million) on overhauling the country’s poultry raising industry, 2 billion baht (€46 million) on research and 1 billion baht (€23 million) on collaboration with neighbouring countries to combat the disease.
