Donnie Smith, president and CEO of Tyson Foods, will be the keynote speaker at the Animal Agriculture Sustainability Summit during the 2011 International Poultry Expo and International Feed Expo. Sponsored by US Poultry & Egg Association and the American Feed Industry Association, the world’s largest poultry and feed event will be held January 26-28 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Smith has 30 years of experience in the food industry. He joined Tyson in 1980 and has served in a variety of responsibilities, including live production, purchasing and supply chain, group vice president of consumer products, and senior group vice president of poultry and prepared foods. Smith was named CEO in November 2009.

Sustainability encompasses a wide range of issues that impact the long-term progress and success of our industry,” said program committee co-chairman Kevin Igli, Tyson Foods. “So, in addition to the Summit’s previous emphasis on environmental issues, this year’s program is being expanded to cover other areas such as the social and economic arenas throughout animal agriculture – people, planet, profit.”

“The poultry industry and animal agriculture have long emphasised the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainability,” added co-chairman Fred Cespedes, American Proteins. “Our industry has led the way in developing technology and management practices to enhance our future success. The Summit will take a close look at the latest tools and ideas to perpetuate sustainability.”
