On 6 March, the Vietnamese veterinary authority sent Follow-up Report to the OIE reporting a further 8 outbreaks of the bird flu virus since the previous report dated 22 February.

All the affected farms are in the far north or the south of the country. Reportedly, a total of 4,432 birds were involved, of which 1,692 became ill and 1,209 died. The remaining birds were culled.

The presence of the H5N1 virus sub-type has been confirmed.
