World Egg Day celebrated across the globe

World Egg Day was celebrated on Friday October 12th with various events designed to support egg producers and promote egg consumption.

The event which was sponsored by the International Egg Commission involved extensive promotions including omelet-cooking competitions, egg-themed festivals, demonstrations at shopping centers and malls and media publicity.

Novus International  partnered with egg industry associations in Africa for the third consecutive year to support World Egg Day celebrations. The day was also recognised at the Biomin World Nutrition Forum in Singapore, where the world’s egg producers were recognised during breakfast.

World Egg Day was established in 1996 and according to the current IEC Chairperson, Joanne Ivy of the American Egg Board “since 1996 events have been held all around the world celebrating the egg and the vital role it plays in people’s diets.  As an industry we feel very privileged to be producing eggs that can benefit so many people’s throughout the world.”

“We are fully committed as an industry to social responsibilities and we are delighted to be working alongside the Food and Agriculture Organization being able to support it in its work to provide high quality food for all,” Ivy concluded.

The commission cooperates with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on nutrition security and on improving the environmental performance of the egg industry.
