As more people have more money to spend, the global consumption of meat will increase with 21.3% between 2005 and 2015.
In 2005, the production was around 260 mln t. Two third of the projected growth is expected to be in China, according to market research bureau Gira.
Pork and poultry
Big winners of the increased consumption are poultry and pork. Poultry is projected to increase with 24 mln t to a total of 105 mln t between 2005 and 2015 (+25%).
World population will eat an approx. 125 mln t of pork in 2015. This is over 21 mln t more than in 2005 (+10%).
Beef will increase 13% (8 mln t) to a total of 70 mln t in 2015.
