Brazil reverts trend and counts 4.6% higher exports till May

Between January and May, Brazilian poultry exports were 4.6% higher than the same period of 2021.

These numbers go to show that the sector has reverted the 4.7% decrease sustained in the first two months of 2021. The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) informed that the country shipped 1.846 million tonnes in the first 5 months of 2021, 82,000 tonnes more than in the same period of the previous year.

The revenue accumulated is 4.8% higher, US$ 2.826 billion in 2021 against US$ 2.697 billion in 2021. These numbers encompass all products, including in natura and processed poultry meat.

“The steady pace of chicken meat sales to the international market has helped to balance the pressure generated by production costs on those companies that have access to exports, which equal approximately 70% of the plants under federal inspection,” analyses ABPA president Ricardo Santin.

According to Santin, importing countries keep demand levels steady and the Brazilian products have remained competitive abroad despite the high grain prices. Brazil exports to more than 143 countries worldwide.

Among the main import markets this year the Philippines in particular imported more, rising to 61.900 tonnes (+65.3%), as did Russia with 42,800 tonnes (+33.6%), the United Kingdom with 41,700 tonnes (+41.4%) and Chile with 39.700 tonnes (+152.9%).

Paraná, the biggest exporting state, shipped 737.100 tonnes in the first 5 months of this year, a volume which is 6.5% higher than the same period last year.

Santa Catarina, the second biggest exporting state, exported 399.900 tonnes (-5.47%). Rio Grande do Sul shipped 287.800 tonnes (+2.31%). These states compound the South of Brazil.

Egg sales on foreign markets also rising

In addition to poultry meat, Brazilian egg sales abroad are 162.3% higher, including in natura and processed eggs. Between January 2021 and April 2021, egg exports totalled 4,638 tonnes, or 2,870 tonnes more than in the same period last year. Revenues rose to 173.1%, equalling US$ 6,211 million in 2021 against US$ 2,269 million in 2021.

The United Arab Emirates were the main importer, importing 3,461 tonnes. Other big importers were Japan with 133.6 tonnes (+18.5%) and Oman, with 270 tonnes (no shipments recorded in the previous year).

In addition, Chile and Argentina have allowed Brazil to export eggs to their markets. Argentina now accepts imports from all Brazilian states, and Chile accepts imports from all plants in Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and São Paulo.
