Canadian Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Parliamentary Secretary Pierre Lemieux, joined Mark Davies, Chair of the Turkey Farmers of Canada to present a donation of Canadian turkeys to Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director of Food Banks Canada.

“As Canadians we have much to be thankful for, particularly the hard work of farmers and producers, like those with Turkey Farmers of Canada, who deliver high quality food to our grocery stores, said Minister Ritz. “Today, I challenge everyone to fill up an extra plate this holiday season by donating some great Canadian agriculture to their local food bank.”

“The Fall harvest season is a busy time for Canadian farmers, but it can also be a difficult time for families with limited resources,” said Parliamentary Secretary Lemieux. “As we celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, I encourage everyone to give a helping hand to the food banks in our communities, which work hard delivering food and support to families in need.”

The Turkey Farmers of Canada is a national organisation that has served as the voice of Canada’s registered turkey farmers for over 36 years.

“We’re pleased that Minister Ritz and Parliamentary Secretary Lemieux are here today to challenge Canadians to donate a turkey or turkey product to their own local food bank to help their own communities,” said Turkey Farmers of Canada Chair, Mark Davies.

The Government of Canada, through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), has made investments this year to both the Turkey Farmers of Canada and Food Banks Canada to strenghten food safety systems across the country.
