US agribusiness giant Cargill has announced that it plans to build a chicken processing plant in Russia to supply McDonald’s chain.
Cargill said it would invest $30 mln to build a facility at its Efremov complex, located 330 km south of Moscow.
Construction is expected to begin later this year and the plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2011. It will have the capacity to produce 18,000 t of processed chicken products for the Russian market.
Cargill said it had been supplying the bulk of McDonald’s chicken volume in Russia from its facility in Orleans, France.
