Combilift’s RT forklift has been nominated as a finalist in the Innovation category of the UK Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) Awards for Excellence 2012. The forklift is on display at the International Poultry Expo 2012 in Atlanta at booth # 2125.
Launched in 2011, the Combi-RT (Rough Terrain) was originally designed in collaboration with Keyo Agricultural Services, one of the UK’s largest providers to the poultry processing sector, and represents a significant step forward in the handling of live poultry.
Combilift CEO Martin McVicar explains: “Most forklifts previously used in this application have been modified versions of mainstream models. Having taken the exact requirements of catching, handling and transportation into account we have developed this purpose built, no-compromise machine.”
The truck has large diameter tractor tires, all-wheel drive, 12 inches (30 cm) ground clearance and a small turning radius – all of which contribute to reduced disturbance of litter.
Fitted with a low profile, clear view, three-stage mast it is quieter and gentler than previous equipment and offers high levels of comfort for operators.
This results in reduced stress levels and therefore enhanced welfare for the poultry and cleaner, speedier operations overall.
Award winning
Combilift, an Irish based manufacturer of specialist handling solutions which exports to over 50 countries, has won numerous accolades for its products since the company was established in 1998, including two previous FLTA Awards for Design Achievement and Innovation, the DHL Export Award and the Irish Exporters Association Award.
The FLTA has praised the finalists in the innovation category for “coming up with products that demonstrate just how imaginative and innovative design engineers can be.” The 2012 award ceremony will be held on February 18.
