DSM Nutritional Products and Novozymes Alliance officily launched their new phytase product RONOZYME® NP at a customer meeting in Copenhagen, enmark on 18 November. The product is now officially registered in the EU.
RONOZYME® NP has been developed exclusively within the Alliance of DSM Nutritional Products and Novozymes. “An alliance that has been oiffcialy signed in 2000” explained Peter Christensen, Alliance Manager at Novozymes. He further explained why this alliance works so well. “DSM is an expert in animal nutrition and Novozymes is an expert in enzymes. Combining these two expertises resulted in this new phytase product for animal diets”.
Phosphorous shortage
For young animals, phosphate plays an important role in the development and growth of the skeleton and is therefore an indispensable ingredient in animal diets. They can’t synthesize it themselves so adding (in)organic phosphorus to the diet used to be common practice. However, rock phosphate reserves are running low; some scientists are warning that this could happen in less than a hundred years.
The use of inorganic phosphate in animal diets is therefore not sustainable on the long term. Adding phytase increases the availability of phytate phosphorous and other phytate nutrients in pig and poultry feeds. “One kilogram phytase can replace 29 kilograms of inorganic phosphorus” Per Henning Nielsen, Life Cycle Assessment expert from Novoyzmes explained.
