One of Asia’s leading healthy food chains SaladStop! has announced it is joining the global cage-free movement.
The Singapore-based company, whose raison d’etre is to be part of the healthy eating movement, said it would only use cage-free eggs from 2025. It applies to all shell eggs, including those going into processing and ingredients.
The pledge applies to all SaladStop! locations globally, including Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Spain.
Director Katherine Braha, said the company had made the move in the light of its animal welfare and environment philosophy and was working closely with Humane Society International (HIS).
“We hope to be one of the catalysts in changing the food system for the better and support a new breed of farms committed to positive change. Animal welfare is an important part of this change, which is why we are excited to work with HIS to source higher welfare cage-free eggs.
SaladStop! Join other companies in Asia, such as Andaz Singapore, The Lo and Beyond Group, Grand Hyatt Singapore, AccorHotels, Sodexo, Compass Group and Unilver in eliminating battery cage-eggs from their supply chains.
Dawn Neo, HSI Asia Farm Animals corporate outreach manager, welcomed the move: “We congratulate SaladStop! for improving animal welfare in its supply chain by adopting a cage-free procurement policy. The transition to sourcing exclusively cage-free eggs will significantly improve the lives of countless animals, and this commitment helps pave the way towards a higher standard of corporate social responsibility for animal welfare in Asia.
“We look forward to working with more companies in the region on similar policies,” she added.
