German poultry production rose 2.5% to 1.66 million metric tones in 2011, the country’s Food & Agriculture Ministry has reported.
Output included 1.19 million tonnes of chicken, 401,000 tonnes of turkey meat, 63,000 tons of duck and 4,500 tons of goose, the ministry announced in a statement.
Imports of live poultry rose 26% to 98,300 tonnes and exports of live poultry increased 5.4% to 312,700 tonnes, the statement showed. National per-capita poultry consumption rose 0.2 kilogram (0.4 pound) to 18.9 kilograms as eating of chicken meat on average climbed 0.4 kilogram to 11.8 kilograms.
