The Ghanaian government is working on a proposal for funding to revamp the poultry industry in the country, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Hannah Louisa Bisiw, has indicated.

The measures are being taken to ensure the production of adequate meat, animal and dairy products to meet the country’s protein requirement, the deputy agriculture minister said. It will also help the country to cut the huge import bill on meat and meat products, which is currently pegged at over $300 million.

Bisiw made these comments at the launch of RE3, a new natural poultry and livestock feed additive from Canada, which was distributed by the Boris B’s Farms and Veterinary Supplies Ghana Limited and Best Environmental Technologies in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.

The minister observed that given that the country’s national annual meat requirement was likely to increase, the increase in demand for meat products would make a case for profitable business in the livestock sub sector.
