Disease is a major restraint to production efficiency worldwide. Despite basic research in molecular biology leading to the development of new vaccines, intensive production systems are impacted by the emergence of new and variant diseases that are often multi-factorial in origin. Advances in the significant disease complexes are reviewed in relation to their potential to affect the profitability of commercial egg production flocks and broilers.
