Growth predicted in Ukrainian egg industry this year

Poultry farms in Ukraine may produce up to 19.38 billion eggs in 2014 which is 2% more than in 2013, the head of the board of directors of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine, Alexander Bakumenko has declared.

According to Bakumenko, the volume of production of dry and liquid egg products in the current year in the country can grow by 15-20% on year-to-year comparison. He also noted that in 2014 exports of eggs and egg products from Ukraine will increase by 10-15% compared to the volume of 2013, and the number of importing countries will raise to 55-56, while last year Ukraine supplied eggs to only 50 countries.

According to him it is very important that domestic poultry producers in 2014 are able to deliver eggs and egg products to the markets of the European Union, however he admitted that shipments will be small because of the high customs duties in the EU.

The largest egg producers of Ukraine, Avangard and Ovostar Union, also have plans to increase production and expand export supplies this year.
